Established in January 2016, The York Polar Bears provide children and young adults with special needs, who may not have the opportunity to participate in recreational or school team sports, a unique chance to engage in hockey. This environment caters to their individual pace and abilities, fostering a supportive space for learning and growth.

Our Mission

The mission of the York Polar Bears Special Needs Hockey Team is to provide individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in ice hockey within an environment tailored to their abilities. Our focus is on enriching the lives of these athletes.

This team aims to offer children and young adults the chance to engage in hockey at a level that suits their skills and abilities. Yet, it goes beyond simply playing the sport. Hockey serves as a platform through which we foster friendships, teamwork, reliability, and personal growth. We strive to instill in each player the qualities that contribute to success, both on and off the ice.
